Be kind to yourself (Life after baby)

Before I had my baby people would tell me that if you breastfeed or if you’re disciplined you will get back to your old self in no time. I know that this was meant to be kind advice but, the truth is that it doesn’t help.

If getting fit after your baby is your goal you will definitely get there by discipline but where I want to change the narrative is this idea that we have to get back to our old bodies. We feel like our transformation is not complete until we fit into our old pair of jeans or in Beyonce’s case it was her old costume. Before you go and cut out all your favorite things from your diet, and work out out all day consider the why. When I was watching Beyonces Homecoming documentary I just kept thinking “Girl WHY are you doing this to yourself.” They followed her journey from post twins to being show ready in a very short span of time. She had this big celebration when she finally fit into her pre pregnancy costume and she talked about how much she sacrificed eating, and how hard she trained to get to that point. Which she no doubt worked her ass off but what I want woman to start considering is the “why”. Why are you pushing yourself so hard? Its one thing if you want to get to a place where you feel happy and healthy but, don’t do it as some sort of internal punishment. I think Bey even said that she will never push herself like that again.

If there is one piece of advice I could pass to a new mom or future one or to women in general it would be to be kinder to yourself. Stop telling yourself that you are unworthy until you look a certain way. You are a goddess and you just created a home for a human being maybe multiple. The only direction to go is forwards so take the time to heal yourself both mentaly and physically and remind yourself to be kind and that you are worthy of love.
