As I move into this new season of my life I am really starting to understand the importance of balance. Now that I am back at work it feels like there is never enough time in the day to get the things on my to-do list done. Between the demands from the baby, doing laundry, cooking for the family, cleaning the house, working on my business, teaching, and family time I was becoming so exhausted physically and mentally. At some point my body said enough is enough and I had to implement these small practices into my daily life
So these are the 3 practices that I try to implement into my daily life to try to keep myself healthy and balanced.
- Put your emergency mask on first. What I mean by that is, to be able to take care of others you need to take care of yourself first. If you can find 5 minutes in your day then find a quite space in your house and just sit down with your eyes closed. Pay attention to your breathe. Let your breathe guide you back to centre so that you can go on with the rest of your day being more aware of your actions.
- Practice Gratitude. In the moments where fear and anxiety start to get the best of you, take a moment to think about something you are grateful for in that moment. Gratitude changes our energy and reminds us of something that makes us happy or joyful. You will then start to notice that your negative narrative will start to change. You begin to move into more of a positive headspace.
- Ask for help! It really does take a village. Some days I feel really overwhelmed with all the things I need to get done but cant find the time because the baby wont let me put him down. It’s ok to reach out to someone and ask for help. Even just to come over and keep the baby company so you can do laundry or whatever it is that you are really behind on.
Being a new mom is so hard in many ways but, it is important to take care of yourself as well. We can get so lost in taking care of our kids that we sometimes forget that we matter too!
